Description
The Flower Puzzle (commonly known as the Botany Flower Puzzle or Parts of a Flower Puzzle) is a foundational Montessori Botany material designed to introduce children to floral anatomy. By removing and replacing individual wooden puzzle pieces representing different structural parts of a flower, children build a concrete understanding of plant biology through tactile exploration.
Key Benefits & Learning Outcomes
Anatomical Isolation: Separates a flower into its core structural components (such as the corolla/petals, calyx/sepals, stamens, pistil, and stem), allowing children to examine each part individually.
Fine Motor & Sensorimotor Development: Small knobs on each puzzle piece refine the pincer grip—preparing the hand for writing—while fitting the distinct shapes develops spatial reasoning.
Language & Botanical Vocabulary: Provides the concrete foundation for three-period lessons introducing botanical terms (e.g., petal, sepal, stamen, pistil, stem).
Preparation for Scientific Observation: Encourages children to closely observe real flowers outdoors or during classroom dissecting activities, connecting the concrete material to nature.
Design & Materials
Included Components:
1 Square wooden frame with a neutral background.
Individual laser-cut wooden puzzle pieces representing distinct parts of the flower, each fitted with a small knob for easy handling.
