Description
The Cards for Number Rods (also known as the Wooden Number Cards 1–10) is a foundational Montessori Mathematics material used in direct combination with the Number Rods. This material transitions children from quantifying physical lengths (1 to 10 red and blue segments) to associating those concrete quantities with their corresponding abstract written numerals.
Key Benefits & Learning Outcomes
Connecting Concrete to Abstract: Bridges physical quantity perception (counting segments on the Number Rods) with abstract mathematical symbols (printed numerals 1 through 10).
Numeral Recognition & Ordering: Sharpens visual recognition of written numbers and reinforces correct numerical sequence.
Self-Correction & Verification: Encourages independent learning as children place each card at the end of its corresponding rod, physically counting segments to double-check accuracy.
Early Arithmetic Readiness: Prepares children for future mathematical concepts, including addition, composition of numbers, and counting on.
Design & Materials
Included Components:
1 set of 10 wooden cards printed with numerals 1 through 10 in clear, bold black text.
1 small wooden storage box or tray designed to keep cards organized in sequence.
Material: Smooth natural hardwood or durable laminated wooden cards finished with non-toxic protective sealants.
Features: Sized specifically to sit neatly against or on top of the end segment of each corresponding Number Rod, with smooth rounded edges for safe, repeated classroom or home practice.
